Aloha
and Welcome to Quindembo Bamboo Nursery.
We
are a small commercial nursery specializing
in the non-invasive bamboos of the tropical
and sub-tropical regions of earth. We believe that bamboo is a resource
for the health and well being of our planet and all creatures who
share it.
Historically, bamboo has been used
by non-industrial people as a source of food,
shelter, medicine, tools, art and spiritual
empowerment. It seems a shame to us that a plant family with as
many beautiful and useful applications is not more widely available
or used by Western society.
For that reason we began importing
and propagating what we believe to be some of the most useful, or
sometimes, just the most beautiful species that we have been able
to find.
We began importing our plant material
to Hawaii in
1989. It has been a long and ardous process - Only the strong survive.
The plants have to be held in quarantine for a period of one year.
For a variety of reasons, including our own ineptitude, we experience
a substantial amount of mortality during this process.
When the survivors are released it
then takes several years to grow them out and only then we can began
to propagate them.
We have not figured out a cheap and/or quick method to do this.
We hope you enjoy and will find useful
the information on this site.
Please remember, we are not taxonomists and this is not a book.
This is free information that you are welcome to download and pass
on. It is accurate to the best of our knowledge...which is always
changing.
